It is a famous story that Japan sent cherry trees to Washington D.C. but I didn’t know it was started from the black ships in Edo period.Speaking of cherry blossoms, I now live in a city where Somei-Yoshino, one of the most popular cherry trees, was born.It only blooms for around a week and the petals are falling now.But I still like the petals scattering in the wind.

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful story, Ai! Where is the place where Somei-Yoshino was originated? I’m very curious, but if you think it’s personal/private information, you don’t have to share. I’ll rather google it by myself later.

I live in Komagome, Tokyo. This place was called Somei-mura in Edo period. There were many gardeners here and it is said that they crossbred two different kinds of cherry trees to make Somei-Yoshino.

I didn’t know that Komagome is the birth place of Somei-Yoshino. Thank you for sharing it. I just googled and found that there are kind of a lot of parks where we can enjoy the particular sakura flowers in your neighborhood. I’d love to go see them in full bloom next year (I’m sure it’s kind of too late this year…)🌸
