At least when I lived in the States decades ago, it seemed normal to chat with strangers sharing the same table at a café. We would get excited to discover mutual acquaintances or connect with people who had similar hobbies and interests.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I’m feeling better now. I saw the doctor and went through a bunch of tests, including a brain CT scan, but luckily nothing suspicious came up. It might just be a migraine.

You’ve made a really interesting point! When I taught Japanese in the U.S., most of my students joined study abroad programs at universities in the Kansai region. When they came back, they teased me, saying the Japanese I taught didn’t help them much in Japan. It was only when they traveled to Tokyo that they could understand what people were saying and make themselves understood.Interestingly, most of my American students felt more at home in Osaka than in Tokyo. Maybe it’s just my impression, but since they tend to be pretty open-minded and talkative, they seemed to vibe better with the friendly, outgoing culture in Osaka.😊

おそらく一般的にイギリス🇬🇧は王室と伝統のある貴族的なイメージ→官僚的。アメリカ🇺🇸はそんなイギリスから独立して自由を打ち立てた庶民派というようなイメージがあるのだと思います。ただ少なくとも自分が長期で経験したアメリカ社会に関しては、確かにフレンドリーな方もいますが、むしろ無口で内向的な方も同じぐらいいます。結局は日本の人口の中の比率と同じパターンになるんでしょうけれどね。お国柄というか、国によってイメージが違うというのはとても面白いですよね。どんな風に作られるのか？メディアやCMが作る印象も影響が大きいかも知れませんね😊私もそういう風に世界を理解していることが多いので、ホント興味深いです。
