As you talked about your parent’s house, my grandmother also didn’t lock her house in Shimane prefecture a few decades ago. We were away from her house and came back in the late afternoon. There was signs of someone being there, like tissues in a dust box and cigarette butts in an ashtray. あいさん、地域コミュニティのみなさんの心温まるエピソードですね☺️うちの田舎(富山)は、They still leave some of their house doors unlocked.だと思います。それこそwhen my grandparents were younger, they were all left open.だったと思いますけれどね。近所の田んぼの農家さんが集まって休憩の時におしゃべりとかされていたと思います☺️最近はrobberyも増えているので、they don’t feel as safe as before.だと思いますけれど…民家は今後どんどん空き家化していくようですが、外国人がそこに価値を見出してリノベして住むなどの動きも出ているようですね。I hope they keep making the most of th old houses in the countryside. downtownは「都市中心部」「繁華街」を指す言葉なので、「下町」はold town, historic district, traditional areaなどが適訳だと思います☺️💕
